Poem
All I thought was going to last forever has been long gone, Only those that are yet to come. Here standing before the mirror, Staring at the reflection of the younger me; We found the truth in our eyes, For we had nothing to hide. His eyes were gentle and mild, With an aura of strength and courage that filled the space. Still standing and looking, I saw the darkness taking over the space, With his joy fading away with haste; As failed promises filled the place, and sadness clouds his face. Many had come and gone, Each leaves behind memories and trunks of unfulfilled promises. For words are sweet and plain, Like pure honey dripping from a melting comb, So are their words Flowing directly into the roads to his heart; Leaving it soft and easier for them to crack. Just as they came, they left; Without leaving at least a goodbye kiss, Or with a notice, and they left him to find within a peace. Everything seems to be untrue now… He has lost his faith in people, Seems no one meant his words. Love, care, and affection is a felony, For the tortures and pain and shame, are enormous But there was no one to calm him down. Once more, steered into his eyes, Found within, a heart of gold, So cold. His mind getting so old, But he had no one to hold. Wolves and lions now come, disguising as goats and sheep. It has become so hard to know the true ones, For they all come with same lines, and rhymes, Flowing smoothly like water falling heavily off the cliff, on rocks. With steady interesting sounds that could get you in the moment, And swiftly carry you away once you get into it. What a danger! For it gets hold of you and leave you shattered. He got so used to it, he could rehearse same old lines on their sight Then recite them along in his mind, Like movies, they act to his scripts. Because, they’ve made him the playwright. I had a deep breathe, It sounded to him like the sound of a gentle breeze, Such that brings joy and hope. Looking up to his eyes once again, We steered deeply at each other, As I recited same old lines. Tears dropped from eye lead like rains Softly and gently. We were filled with joy, For it’s the first time we heard the truth. I could feel the connection, affecting, attention that we both seek, The love filled the air. It smelled like a garden of roses by the river side. He responded with a smile,. We knew we’ve got each other, And the peace we searched for in miles, Was found within. All I’ve got is me, For I am who I need. ~KADOANYA CHRISTIAN~
