BROKEN THINGS There store was quite crowded as she shopped that day, She tried to avoid all the folks in the way. But in her care somehow she bumped into a shelf And things were all scattered on the floor and herself. And glass had been shattered and my what a mess! She tried best to clean it but was under such stress. Some others assisted, some just looked on in fear, She broke into tears as the owner came near. “I’m sorry,” she cried as she struggled to say, “I’ll pay for the damage I made here today.” The owner just smiled as he sent for a boy To clean up the mess then looked at her with joy. “We have our insurance for things just like this, You will owe us nothing, not a penny you’ll miss!” Oh, my, how that story reminds me of life So full of transgressions and all sinfrul strife. We look at the mess and we cry when we say, “For all of the damage I now have to pay.” Then Jesus comes to us and calms our heart so When He says, “I paid for it when I came to go To Calvary’s mountain to die for your sin, And now you owe nothing if you let Me come in!” Yes, things may be broken a lot in your life, So full of its sin and its troubling strife, But Jess has offered to pay for it all When just by your faith upon Him you call. --Based on a story shared by a friend.
