The first time I heard the term the Watchmen on the Wall was from now deceased television evangelist Hal Lindsey. Did Hal Lindsey invent the term? No in the Old Testament of the Bible, the watchmen would guard the gates of the City of Jerusalem! When invaders came, it was the watchmen's job, to sound the alarm and warn the people! Watchmen had to be dedicated men, for when the invaders did come, they were usually the very first to die. Thus it could be said that they willingly sacrificed their own lives to save their own people. Some times the watchmen were corrupt and took bribes from Israel's enemies. They were usually exposed, by God, and punished accordingly. When Israel was corrupt and disobedient, its watchmen were also corrupt and disobedient. And the reverse is also true! When Israel was obedient, its watchmen were obedient! Who are our modern day watch men and watch women? The answer is our first res-ponders and our military. That will be true of the secular use of the term only. Accordingly to Hal Lindsay the term watch men also had a spiritual connotation. It applied to the pastors, deacons, evangelists and missionaries. In other words the religious leaders of our churches or temples or synagogues. But it was Hal Lindsay who expounded the term watchmen to also mean dedicated Christian men and women. It is our job to sound the alarm during times of trouble. "In the last days perilous times will come." 2 Timothy 3:1. And our times have never been more perilous than they are today. Our job is the same as John the Baptist's was, "Repent for the Kingdom of God is at Hand." If we fail to warn the wicked to repent, than their blood is placed on our forehead, and we are held responsible! But if they don't repent and change their ways and become saved? What is a concerned Christian to do? Your loved ones are blatantly unsaved and do not want you to pray for them! You are to pray silently and thus be a silent witness for them. Praying that God will saved them from everlasting damnation before it is much too late! You can lead by setting Godly examples! Why did I ask Watch men and Watch women to take a pledge? It was one similar that was made by the founding fathers of our once Great and God fearing new nation! They pledged their lives, their finances, their properties and their sacred honors! And quiet a few of them paid their ultimate sacrifices. Our time will also come to do likewise! Roxanne Lea Dubarry October Country November 10, 2021
