Poem
I've never been a coward I've never been named Howard I'm not a doctor but I'm like a doctor Struggling with patience And I hate this and how I debate this Delete this, delete that Like I delete fat off my body Wearing a wreath of holly Perhaps a folly, perhaps something jolly Some call me a sinner But call me whatever you want Just don't call me later for dinner These words I frame on this page For fame in a fit of rage Yet despite it all I'm stuck in a cage The bars made out of ebony But it's heavenly to be isolated And that's what has been fated Because I self-isolate and live as a loner But perhaps that's a misnomer I could hit a homer or travel to Somer Like a blast to the past To explore the vast reaches of space With haste I look for my place In case I lose my pace But look at my face A book just for my taste Placed here for me to read: "Be who you are today, Because tomorrow you might be someone different." "Expect failures to happen, And learn from them when they do." "Accept people's quirks, Because that is what you will miss most when they're gone." "And don't be afraid to drop rhyme, Because it's not a crime." These words I read aloud if I may be allowed And I vowed to be a better man somehow And now I look for the tower A monolithic symbol of power That may cause lesser men to cower But when the stars cascade in a celestial shower I'll take the chance to dance and fancy that Romancy chat with the one I love Above all else I wanted to be a dove But I was born a crow Always cawing sadly but now I know That if I am to grow and not be craven I'll indulge the wisdom of a raven To find the gates of my own haven In the pages of this book I'll cackle like a crook Because I took all the wisdom inside And now it's to you that I confide I've never been a coward I've never been named Howard I'm just me And that's all I can be Today or tomorrow I'll live without sorrow When sadness is looking wronger I'll find the strength to be stronger And to you who finds these words Please let them be heard Don't sacrifice your soul To fit in with the coal Because your soul is not tainted Even if you've been told so Delete this feeling And delete that which is self-defeating For life's grand yarn is all too fleeting So take it from me when I say you are allowed To speak these verbose passages aloud And the most important one for you to see: "I love me."
