Poem
Jumping Jack Morgan is a boy who can’t sit. Jumping Jack Morgan wants to listen, and he wants to learn. He knows his teacher and Mom are concerned. He holds his breath, and he grits his teeth, trying to sit still in his hard school seat. But even though his mind is set, his body and feet are not willing yet. Jumping Jack Morgan jumps from his chair. He doesn’t see what harm and disruption could be there. Papers go flying, crayons roll to the ground. Jack feels bad and looks all around. No one is harmed and no one is hurt, just some glue and glitter stuck to his shirt. Jumping Jack Morgan struggles to fit. To be that student that will always get…. praise and smiles, many rewards, pats on the back and positive accords. But Jumping Jack Morgan only gets heavy sighs, he’s the one that gets the evil eye. He is the boy that everyone will know because his actions lead to woe. Jumping Jack Morgan wants to be good, and he wants to be still. His mind is racing, his insides churn for the need to move is a slow burn. What Jumping Jack Morgan needs to know is that he is good, and he is great. His moving about is not a mistake. He is the person he should be, and he will grow and he will succeed. He will be a man of action and true grit. Jumping Jack Morgan is a man that won’t sit. By Karen Ludwick
