Tell ya what it is
What it's not
It's nothing
Not something
Put away that pile of sticks    sanders    screw drivers    plans
It's not some builder's dream

It's nothing not something
Even thin air is full of something
NO!  It's out of thin air
Not the image in the mirror
It's what's not back of you
Not clear as a bell
It's where the ring has gone
It's what you try to finger
Yet what you can't put your finger on
What happens just before the hammer stroke
What happens just after
Not the shriek    not the laughter
What you try to figure
What your brain goes white on
It's not how you feel making love
It's how you feel after
Not in the gut
But somewhere
It's not the instrument
It is the thought of sound
Not the color
But what surrounds
It is the quiet before
The quiet after
