Poem
At least one of my greatest QUESTS was undertaken some 13 years ago. I understand one's QUEST for gold, other valuables, or information. This QUEST involved a family member and his ex-wife. It's not that I did not know where they were, but I longed to see them that I might share my heart with them about something they did for me many years ago. A telephone or email would not have sufficed. The 2000 miles that separated us did not matter. I had to look them in their eyes and say, "Thank you". And it wasn't just 'a normal seeing' or one that ignited lots of emotions. There was something within me regarding them that had to be satisfied. In a larger sense, perhaps I was in search of a fresh connection with them. But far beyond that, there was an intangible debt owed for far too long. There was my older brother and his wife to whom I owed a deep debt of gratitude. They sheltered me when I took my first step away from home after high school. They believed in me and never once did they attempt to alter my course of study. There were words of commendation spoken to me that have stayed with me for more than 50 years. There was this special occasion when, after dropping me off at the college I was to attend, my sister-in-law said to me, "I admire the fact that you are so decisive". Some words are 'life words', spoken into one's life like a seed that takes root and geminates. I was therefore convinced that there was a quest I had to fulfill, something that I needed to tell them; something for which I am very thankful. Hense, even though they were divorced with several hundred miles between them, I was compelled to visit each of them face to face, look into their eyes and say, "Thank you, for believing in me, for accommodating me at no cost for as long as required". From Sacramento to Mississippi; from Mississippi to Chicago. Such was the route of my QUEST, and no material or financial debt payment could have compared to the reward I experienced. The mutual and therapeutic transaction that transpired between us was unequaled. 092821PSCtest, "Q" Contest, New Only, Constance La France. 1P
