Poem
There are butterflies in my garden; can you believe it? Two or three of its kind; big and small. All very cute and very colorful Delightful to watch; a sight to behold When morning dew still hovers Dragon flies show up as drones; Their wings whizzing non-stop Some grown, some tiny, lively Skeletal look, yet very charming Even a couple of humming birds Set foot on my roof garden plants They squatted in style on the Betel creeper and jasmin twigs I was filled with joy and thrill As so close I had seen them last Fifty-five years ago; then it was In a land-garden at home Being too fussy; it kept hopping And trotting every few seconds To touch them impossible indeed Birdwatching is an art of course From Ixora varieties to Aloe vera Pysonia, insulin and money plants Pomegranate and crotons too Made gloom and dearth fly untold From spider Lilly to lemon grass, From roses to jasmines, thulsi From hibiscus naturals to hybrid Indian Alari and roses to Tacoma stars The fragrance of flowers differed But the aroma stayed distinct Ages differed; kinds very many Sizes differed; attractions scored God creates them all, all over But none were on my roof before Until a garden of substance rose With plants, shrubs and flowers Some flowers were for pooja While others adorned deities Some common; some rare Nectars belonged to bees alone Many flowering; many just leafy Lemon, mint and curry leaves Of different shapes, sizes; smell Spinach both edible and healing Special plants, weeds and thorns Some leaves light green medium Dark, yellowish; some red orange Some brown and white mixed up While at my garden of happiness Sharp sunlight warmed the Bones And cooled the nerves It helped one pick Vit D and tan It refreshed oneself; inspiring Creative thinking and hope Calmed the rush of blood and Helped limit the spike in pulse Insects small and tiny hovered Barely visible; yet all cheered up Sucking nectar off sweet petals With enough flora and foliage Honey bees and spiders thrived Garden lizards darted across Grass hoppers, crickets worms Plants spider Lilly to lemon grass Parakeets and cuckoo were Visitors from neighborhood Pigeons, crows flew in daily The squeak of squirrels all real! The best thing is yet to come: The butterflies in my garden like It’s kind elsewhere, chase away The butterflies in the stomach!
