Poem
We are people of plan and of purpose, not cargo or merchandise for commerce and trade. We were not born in the wrong place at the wrong time, nor were we made in China or America. Neither an accident or freak of nature, nor shall we like vapor disappear into the atmosphere. Before we were formed in our mother's womb and long before we were born, we were planned. 40 to 150 million sperms competed for the privilege to fertilize the egg to make you and me*. That is far above and beyond my 'pay-scale' to wrap my brains around such an amazing reality. I am amazed that there were millions of opportunities for someone else to succeed in being me. Like herds of migrating wildebeests, there were hosts of living cells competing for the right to be me. Of the millions who fail in their gallant attempt, there was but one who succeeded as the others receded, never to have another opportunity, nor to be seen or heard of again. We are therefore strong, because a sperm travelled long that it might reach the wall of the home of the egg. You and I were eggs and incomplete, alone and without identity, until that lone sperm came swimming along, and proving his ability, eventually made an entry, fertilizing the egg, a process that allowed the two of them(sperm and egg)to become one. Some time between then and birth, our gender was determined, and our world was enlivened with joyous boys and girls. Therein I became me with distinctive personality, with unique sensibilities, and sacred realities. I am therefore me, because before I was formed, God planned the me that I would become; that I would be more than flesh, blood, and tissue, but also spirit to communicate with Him; that I would be capable of abiding in earthly realm, but also to willfully ascend to heavenly realm. Our creator gave each of us a mind of our own to think for ourselves, making choices of good or of evil; to participate in determining our destiny. Yes, this goes counter to the thinking of Friedrich Nietzsche*, who was one of the most influential of all modern existentialist and postmodernist thinkers. He is considered the father of Nihilism, which teaches that there is no ultimate meaning to human existence. He could not be more wrong about the fact we have purpose and belonging. 082721PSCtest, Why Am I Me? Shreya LN *Why does it take millions of sperm to fertilize an egg ... https://goaskalice.columbia.edu/answered-questions/... **https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/1938.Friedrich_Nietzsche
