Poem
My street is four short blocks in length, connected to two boulevards, shaped like an "L", and lined with three cul-de-sacs with our house directly facing the center cul-de-sac. I might add that I have noticed that both our homes purchased since 1990 have directly faced cul-de-sacs. ??? We get occasional visits from wild turkeys, and it's duly noted by me that they are respectful and slowly pass on. Quietness speaks volumes on our street which is not an Avenue but a 'Way'. As a matter of fact, we have never lived on an Avenue. On Weatherby Way, we are never more pleased. The dogs are responsibly quiet and so are the cats. I often see my neighbors out walking their dogs which contributes greatly to their pets' contentment. And the squirrels I'm guessing are on vacation which is fine by me, because it gives me a break from their pecking and chasing each other across the roof of our house. I am retired, but this working class community seems pretty busy, some of whom appear to be working at home because there are plenty of package deliveries. Such packages are left at the front doors, and no one including myself has any concern about their packages being taken as is the case in some other communities. There's a train line in back, but the horns don't blow like they used to, making sleep and rest very sound and sweet. There are some green lawns, but most are like my own. The color of green is most beautiful, and the lawns long for water; but we are in a drought. It has taken a little time, but in our neck of the woods, we are getting used to the color of brown. 082521PSCtest, Avenue Poetry, Julia Ward
