What is the purpose, 
of lying to yourself
when it's eating you up inside,

What is the purpose,
of running to hide
as if you could never be found,

What is the purpose,
of pretending not to care
when the most important person,
you're hurting is you

What is the purpose,
I'm asking you

What is the purpose,
of yourself
trying to change another,
when what you have concealed
is secret to many others

What is the purpose,
of a lover, whom with you share your bed
or maybe just a phone call,
you can't get out of your head

What is the purpose,
of having direct TV
when you can't,
even afford
your dire necessities,

What is the purpose,
of a car note
you can't afford to keep,
when your cabinets, stay closed
and your refrigerator's always empty,

What is the purpose,
of two dollar gasoline
only to last a short while,
and spike up again
only worst than before,
until we're all riding bikes
and used skateboards,

What is this purpose, 
I'm asking you

What is the purpose,
of extending your bills
until a later date,
when you don't even know
if you're be able to pay,

What is the purpose,
of borrowing money
you know you can't pay back,
maybe it's to feed your hungry child
or to put clothes on his or her back,

What is the purpose,
of drowning yourself in alcohol
just trying to ease the pain,
you should know that when
you sober up again,
nothing will have changed

What is the purpose, 
I'm asking you

What is the purpose,
of asking for help
when friends have,
closed their doors
the looks, the stares,
the comments and glares
the questions and quotes,
calculations and jokes

then, 
denied,
let down,
ruled out,
close round,

but never ever  a score

What is the purpose,
of the world we live in
one side is joy,
and the other is pain
and many times,
your biggest loss
is another persons gain

What is the purpose, 
of holding a job
when you're barely,
making ends meat
When you can't,
even go out for dinner
or take your child to a movie,

What is the purpose,
of being alone
to handle,
all this world has thrown

What is the purpose,
of defending yourself
when you only,
made things worse
and the police,
that you called
was no help at all,
and...
you're much worse off than before,

What is the purpose,
of playing by the rules
when you only end up getting burned,
you render good for evil and love for hate
and still nothing seems to have turned,

What is the purpose,
I'm asking you
this purpose we have... in... this.... life.....
