Poem
by Bob Moore © 2018 In single file the lines of men, marched slowly down the hill their flags were waving, bugles playing, the ones we had to kill no one knew the reason, they were about to die the orders had been given, ours not to wonder why We knew they were our enemy, against all which we held dear though they did not even know us, they had been taught to fear everything we stood for, and everything we said and they’d been told, not to stop, until we all were dead As they came closer, we could see, that they looked just like us men who drank, and men who laughed, men who knew how to cuss with wives and children left behind, they prayed to see again but for many this would not be, their lives would end in pain We raised our rifle to our shoulder, and sighted down barrel this may be our best chance, to quickly end this quarrel but not until our enemy, was brought down to their knees and beaten, to never rise again, the Gods of War to please Many brave men, would not live, to see the end of day we believed right, was on our side, and were fighting so our way of life, freedom, and liberty, would be ours. ‘till judgement came but our enemy believed this too, and was fighting for the same.
