Poem
Oh, Age, my wise counselor, My faithful friend, my ally From the moment, I was born at that specific year You and I inseparable have remained throughout space and time Holding always hands as years were parading before our Very eyes. Never were we separated, Although when young, eager was I to advance faster ahead And when older I grew, I wished to linger a little bit behind However, You, my wise adviser, ceaselessly, were unyielding Advising me by your side to stay at all time For Only by doing so, you told me, happy I would be, If in harmony with you I proceed and at the proper pace In that way, you declared, I could see and learn to appreciate The things as they really are and not as they appear to be at Any given instant. Thus Together through an impressive string of stunning transformations went: At first, we were young and fresh, daring and provoking, Also inquisitive and challenging we were, energetic and resourceful So The pick of our vigor we soon reached and succeeded in Celebrating life. The years though started passing faster than before, and The mood, eventually did change: Thus more cautious we became, Less daring, Less challenging, Less energetic, and less eager But Always interested we were to see what towards us Was coming. One day gray hair appeared that soon turned into white And shortly after wrinkles started to be apparent But You and I, my friend, clinched we were to one-another so Never let each other’s hand For All these years I have learned to trust you, your Wisdom and your judgment Because You never stopped to amaze me, you never ceased new lessons To provide So I grew up and fell in love with whatever I was doing. Till my last moment, I know very well, that you will not Let me down For Your faces are innumerable, your teaching is unending The rewards you have offered me so far, and those to me you still Intend to offer, no matter how old I come to be, all of them are Precious, blessed, and all divine. Now that life’s road I see is coming to an ending I would like, from the bottom of my heart, to thank you, oh age, For holding, firmly, my hand for a number of blessed decades Cause I know that such a chance, to a lot of my friends, was Never to them presented. For all these reasons, Age my adoring friend, from me You will never hear complaints For I have come to know so well that as long as I keep getting old Able I would be, alive to remain, Thus How could I not grateful be to you, my generous Loving Age? © Demetrios Trifiatis 23 June 2021
