In a nearby weeping willow tree
A visitor is perched upon a bough
Robin is singing somewhere above me
I'd never noticed the myriad variations 
Of his warbling song until now

If I sit here long enough
Who knows what I'll hear and see
In answer, 3 Squirrels come running up
Bushy tailed, paws open wide
They look at me, beseechingly

"Sorry - I've got nothing for you" I say
"But now that I know you come here often
We can share peanuts another day
Charming guests such as yourselves
Are bound to make my heart soften"

A sudden flash of red close by
Reveals a Cardinal, and his Catbird cousin
Searching for insects; "Over here!" I cry
"There are plenty of bugs feasting on me
Make these your meal - they're here by the dozen"

Come Mockingbird, Grackle, scampering Cottontail
Your presence in this garden is like music to me
Such sweet sounds of spring never fail 
To lift my spirits, to soothe my soul
As you perform your Pastoral Symphony
