Poem
"The sky is awful dark; there has to be a big deadly storm ahead", said Mr. Smith. "The sky is awful dark; there has to be lots of needed rain coming", said Mrs. Smith. Some people see giants and themselves as mere grasshoppers.* Some people see giants and themselves well able to defeat them. Upon first sighting two tents of homeless people on a hill, my first thought was, "That will lower the value of the community". Some time later, I felt a fresh spirit of compassion sweeping over me which said, "What about the value of human beings?". The people and the tents are still there, and I pray that conditions will improve for them, but another closer and deeper look helped me to see them more compassionately. I once saw a German Sheperd running toward me, supposedly to do great bodily harm. My eyes saw danger and my heart beat rapidly. I froze, fearing for the worse. I braced myself for a mean and vicious animal, for a dog bite that never occurred. The same German Sheperd saw me as a friend, not as danger, not someone to attack; but rushing toward me, he began to wag his tail and started walking with me. My frozen spirit thawed, and my lapidating heart quickly returned to normal. On An Afternoon in the early 80s, I crossed The Golden Gate Bridge as she was swinging in the wind. Yes, I was timid as I crossed that infamous bridge, and relieved when told I was the last to cross before closure. Apprehensive? Yes, but never saw myself or the bridge falling, but I did see 'day light' at the toll booth just ahead. 052221PS *Numbers 13:33
