Poem
As a child I had a big old red trunk,                                  it was my special toy chest.                                            It was big and bright red,                                                it was painted just for me.                                              My name was printed in yellow,                                        very pretty on the top.                                                    For many years,                                                             my toys stayed safe inside.                                                                    Now many years later,                                                    I have children myself.                                                                               I look inside,                                                                  my big red toy chest.                                                                         The backing is coming off,                                              a book is showing from the edge.                                     I slowly take the small book,                                          pulling it out from the backing.                                                               An old small brown book appeared,                                  "My Journal" on the cover in faded gold ink.                                              I slowly opened the book,                                                                     as I read the words I cried.                                              The journal book was from wartime.                                this was my dad's old trunk,                                            He hid his journal just for me,                                           for me to find and read one day.                                    His journal book told stories,                                                           some funny-some sad.                                                    The big old red trunk,                                                      his old journal book was all I had left.                              Left from a great man,                                                    left from my dad just for me.
