Poem

I reminisce, I miss my youth spent on the lap of blue hills, 
rolling down from the hazy horizon with the carvings 
of meandering streams, thriving thicket and emerald vales, 
embedded in the flamboyance of my juvenile exuberance.

My memory floats on the wings of the indigo birds, 
soaring on the distant cerulean sky, 
like my colored kites that flew at the fringe of fleeting clouds, 
in their drifting enigmatic shadows sweeping the meadow 
my freak fantasy used to take nebulous shapes. 

I now marvel wondering what those forms meant, 
for they were so artfully expressive 
in the intricate lattice of interlaced light and shade, 
like the patterns smoky sunbeams created 
as they pierced the foliage in the forest where I ventured 
chasing the motifs of the flitting butterflies, 
or like the dancing design the trees made 
with their lengthening shadows quivering on the ripples,
rolling on sailing swans’ wake in the pond at sunset. 
 
The infantile images deeply engraved in the young mind, 
trampled by the footsteps that have walked me so far away,
on the undulating topography of life, 
lie buried defaced under the dust of time.  
Now at the edge of the falling night, 
following the outline of the faint footprint trail, 
I reminisce, I miss the frayed tapestry of my youth.
