Poem

Hethgut had to keep the beast away from snow mountain
For the women and children were up there, huddled in fear.
Other men were coming down the hill behind him, 
But he was the lead beast slayer, so he stood out front.

He expected to die today, but it would be an honorable death.
They would sing his praises, and his great grandchildren would revere him.
He was more than ready. He was eager, feeing the other world in his grasp.
The monster had claws like an eagle, and eyes of red; blinking lights.

He had never seen such a beast.  Smoke came out of its head.
He wondered what weapon would kill this beast.
If he could not kill it, could he at least maim it 
Harm it enough that it would limp away, leaving the helpless alone?

Hethgut got out his sword and began slashing.
The beast did not below, scream or shout. 
It stopped and looked at him, giving him the chills. 
He took a run at it. Feeling his heart leap. A great day to die!
