ROSE GOLD (Part 2) Gold So much for power, the value of an empire, the value of a nation. Squeezing from the people this metal of limitless extravagance, Melting it down and poring it into lifeless ingots and marring it with simple monikers. Laying it to rest in cold, dark tombs of iron, bars and chains, drab and dark. A practical purpose for the economies of bread; But what of the economies of the heart? Forgive the world for its pedestrian use of something so precious; And stamping out crooked faces for a hateful exchange. But let us not waste our spirits; Let us steal away some of the magic for the Alchemist’s furnace. Before we add our loot, we must first render it in fire. The husk of governance and cynical patina must be removed. Much like our souls, life adds such hateful weights. For a moment, let us put down these weights. Let us breathe the air, slowly, softly nursing our lungs. Bath in warm salts scented with lavender and eucalyptus. Preparing ourselves for the heat, the work that is required To trieth our hearts much like the refinement of prized ore. Though the work is difficult; I will do this work With my beloved. Together we could do anything. And now, in the fire, before the Alchemist’s crucible. We pore the gold that we have collected at great cost. The gold that We have defended through the fiercest storms. The gold that We have refined through hardship. The gold that We have proudly carried in our hands for all this time. Let it mingle now with the goddess of love; the goddess of desire. Let it take in the dust of the moon. Let it be made more beautiful than anything we could have ever done on our own. This process, this plan, this page in the Alchemist’s book Is the greatest pursuit I could have ever imagined. With my beloved. I can make gold shine like roses.
