Poem

Tell me, friend, just when all the right and wrong
 of the good old days were revised and spawned?
You recall, those days when kids wore plain old dungarees,
 collected baseball cards, marbles, comic books, heard radio without TV
and we admired men like Captain Kangaroo and John F Kennedy.

The days when soldiers from Korea were World War vets
 and VietNam, Russia and the bomb the greatest threat,
flower children and free love oh my, weren't personal delights
 and fathers still told children stories of kings, queens, and knights
and under starry skies, doors remained unlocked every night.

Take me back within these fading memories
  the child naiive as could be with the future waiting patiently,
off to grandmas house for her special homemade foods
 shared holidays kept us happy, content with minor family feuds
and rarely was anyone obnoxious, cruel or rude.
 
The days when a gallon of gas was thirty cents  
 and a loaf of bread was a quarter well spent
and a bike ride to the corner store with friends
 held laughter and silly play with innocent intent
I remember the old days well, over and over again.
