Poem
Dear Jenny, When I got your letter I knew I had to write back right away. I couldn't quite make out your return address. But a friend helped me figure it out. I hope this letter gets to you somehow. I wanted to tell you thanks, it meant a lot to me. You meant a lot to me too, I swear it on a stack of Bibles. Have to say, I never expected a letter from you after all these years. It's been so many, I didn't know you'd thought about me, or ever wanted to again. Though I've often thought on you from time to time. Most of it was good, most memories of us together... Except that day I never came back. I am so sorry for doing that. I guess it's too late to say it, but I need you to know that. It's okay if you never forgive me. But I really am sorry, and not just for you, but sorry how I feel about things,. and about you. Thanks for returning my ring. I'm real sorry to hear about your mom, she was always so nice to me. Remember when she got her tax check and took us out for a steak dinner with all the works? I know she would be so proud of you now. I'll never get to tell her how sorry I was disappearing that way. I know she worked so hard for you three.., kept you safe and happy the best she could. Also, wanted to say thanks for the eight photographs including that reel from the arcade booth. I forgot how much I needed you. Those photos really took me back to that summer. You were real, so was I. I remember making you smile, easy enough then I guess., they were some of the happiest times of my life. I noticed you had to tape some of them back together. Can't really fault you for tearing them. I was planning to come back to you when I saved some money. I got so lost, somehow. Sorry if you went to a dark place for a time on my account. But seems things turned out real nice for you. Anyway, I was so glad to hear from you, really made my day. Your kids sound real nice. Your daughter looks so much like you did back then. Not saying you aren't just as sweet as I remembered, you are and always will be to me. I liked all the stories, places you've been, what you've been doing all this time. You sure have had an interesting life. I was sorry to hear about your divorce. Been there too. It's hard to make a marriage work when only one is trying at a time. At least it was in my case. I hope to hear from you again with news of how you're getting along Jenny. Please tell your brother and sister I said hello, and tell them I said I was sorry for leaving them that way too. faithfully yours, -The Past epistolary
