You walk beside me through the streets
Forever remarking on my birds and bees
Sensing my presence, though fleeting
Hoping to know me but never reaching
Out to grasp the hand that holds your hope

You see me in the eyes of a friend or lover
Discerning their inner beauty, their intelligence
The creativity that makes them someone you
Want to know better, someone you can confide
In with your desires, needs and reflections

You welcome me into your home sometimes
During the holidays, when everyone is so kind
Briefly you take a moment to honor me there
Amid the gifts and words of prayer that signal
Warmth displayed through hues of faith in the air

You meet me in the doorway of some business
Where I lie awaiting the chance to accept your gift
Some token that tells me I am pitied and comforted
By your gesture of kindness in giving me a slip
Of hope dressed in green with a dollar symbol on it

You learn of me in your churches where I long to venture
If only those inside would appreciate my presence with 
Them, there among the brethren who yearn to show me
Their faith, their love, their sense of joy coming from above
All the values that I bestow on those who want to know

You whisper to me in breathes like the wind’s caress
Murmuring through my spirit, harboring second chances
For love that lives on the inside, answering prayers for
A better day, a better way, the opportunity to dream
And believe and be all that I meant for you to become

You sing to me in the moments of joy that cause you to
Smile with assurance that I am more alive than you might
Have believed, so much alive, in fact, that you can truly see
The hues of passion and innovation kissing your thoughts
With the assurance that I am only one small thought …
From the center of your heart!
