Poem
I am optimistic we will see our little spirit boy today. He always comes on a Tuesday, however, not every Tuesday. I first noticed him when I was six. We used to play together. His name is Johnathan, and he is hilarious. He begged me to not get any older, so I could be with him always. I had no idea how to stop growing, so I kept becoming older. Johnathan was disappointed and disappeared when I turned sixteen. I did not see him again until I was thirty, and had a six year old of my own. I actually was not aware of him until my daughter made an announcement. I am going to play in the hills with Johnathan today! Initially, I did not make the connection. My parents had called him make believe. She described his clothing, and commented he never changed them. That is when the hairs stood to attention on the back of my neck. My imaginary friend had become my daughter’s imaginary friend? I described him and his clothes, and my Johnathan was verified. Today is Tuesday. I am taking my six-year-old grandson up the hill. The hill is Johnathan’s utmost favorite place. I know Max will love his laugh, and his sense of humor. There is something comforting in knowing Johnathan. I want Max to have the chance to play with him too. The difference is, I will never mention the words imaginary or make believe. I will let Max know that Johnathan is real. Because others cannot see, means nothing. We all have our own truth.
