Poem

Lord, our blessings are so bountiful and magnanimous in scope.                                                                            O, Father, where do I begin? Clearly there is no end nor measure.                                                                        So, Lord, allow me to thank you for what lies closest to my heart.

For you LORD, for my FAMILY, my CHURCH, my COUNTRY, and my FRIENDS.                                              Thank you. Lord, you are first and foremost, above and beyond, and I love you most dearly. Lord, for my dear wife of 48 years, two sons, and daughter you gave me. Thank you. Lord, for my granddaughter and 5 grandsons. Thank you.  Lord, for the traditional stable home and large family I grew up in. Thank you. Lord, I am trying to get through this prayer of thanksgiving, but  it's a bit tough as I fight back the tears.

Again, Lord, for most of my 71 years, you have blessed me to be well connected to churches that have been an anchor to my soul, a sure and lasting foundation. Thank you. Lord, my great country, The United States of America; its good; its bad; its ugly. Yes, Lord, it's all that, but it's my country,
and I think it's the best.  I feel blessed and honored to be called an American. Thank you.                                         

And lastly, Lord, over the years. you have rained upon my life a great treasure of friends.  Many of them, Lord, are so much like you. You know each of them and what they mean to me. Thank you.
