Poem

There was an old man, who lived in a house.
And had a friend, a dainty brown mouse.
The man would wake, to the sun on his face,
And a mouse in a hole, with a trap in its place.

The man one day, woke up to a shock,
The mouse had escaped, and found a cheese block.
The old man shouted, a face scarlet red,
For the mouse had chewed, the posts of his bed.

He stormed to the kitchen with a rage and a hurry,
To find a fat mouse, with a face full of worry.
‘You get out my house, you darned little rat!’
He said to the mouse, whilst holding his bat.

The mouse replied, with a squeaky tone,
‘Please hurt me not sir, this place is my home!’
The angry old man, upon hearing that voice,
Was surprised on having to make a choice.

Shall the mouse stay, and accompany him,
Or shall it be banished, to elements so grim.
Luckily to say, for the small brown mouse,
The old man said, ‘I’ve a three bed house’.


‘I’ve lived on my own, for a long enough time,
Eating my meals, and drinking my wine.
If you want to become, a permanent resident, 
Feel free, my friend, for that would be excellent!’

The only thing, that I ask of you please, 
Is that you no longer, nibble at my cheese’.
The mouse with a smile, had found his home, 
a three bed house, in which he could roam.

The trap was removed, and the pair made a team,
The mouse on a diet, of grapes, and cream.
A friendship was born, an old man and his mouse,
Who lived together, in his three bedroom house.
