Poem

Of all the people in my past- 
Why do I have dreams of you?
You left me back in 2001-
Where I thought I left you too. 

This makes about the fourth time-
I had a dream that you were in. 
Each one ending merely the same. 
Regardless how they begin. 

For a long time my heart was broken-
But I finally went on with life. 
I learned to love another man. 
And now I am his wife. 

I'm happy with the way things are now. 
What I can't seem to understand, 
Why in the world. outta the blue
Do I dream of this other man. 

In front of friends and family, 
I made vows I plan to keep. 
Why give a second thought to one, 
Who only wants me in my sleep. 

I don't know what I should do though.
It's not like it's an affair. 
I shouldn't wake up smiling
From what's actually a nightmare. 

Maybe I'm overthinking it. 
 It really doesn't mean a thing. 
I just don't like keeping secrets
 And the aftermath it can bring. 

You and I had a certain bond. 
Very few people know about. 
You still broke my heart with ease, 
 You shouldn't be in my head so get out. 

I know it don't mean I want you. 
I love the life he's made for me. 
It's ok to dream of the past with you, 
Since the past is where you'll be.
