The Far Less Child
 
It was not through muscle flesh or sinew
Or through thought
It did not come from aching joints or from slow pulse of blood
Nor from silence or from heavy eyes did it come
 
A tiredness 
A weariness that echoed beyond breath or lung
Went on to permeate and suffuse entirely
Seemingly all that I am
It issued and filled and dispersed from my heart
From my heart
This jaded and solemn pall did come
 
As cold I sat without reason
Unable to trace a moment of truth and warmth
As if all in moments of love had passed
Leaving me void, empty and barren
 
I could not recall any moment of happiness
That had not been tainted
No smile that was given
That was not filled with lies and delusion
While all those dreams and wishes were swept away
And hope relented
 
All the more the silence echoed
Into the vacant space at my side
Through a slow single beat
Was this ennui’s rhythm birthed
To leave me in a world peopled and populace
In a night and day of communion and converse
I sat frozen
Devoid
And alone 
 
There was no belief that had not been betrayed
No joy in creation
No exhilaration in knowing deity
All I touched became a misused and broken heart
And my soul wept
As this aching sadness swept
Through my veins
 
There was nothing to crave, nothing to do 
Accept plead for a moment of peace
