Poem
A young lady’s soul was trapped in a life of moral decay.
She was born and raised underfoot; painful memories were all that were made.
She often dreamed of marriage and having a child to call her own.
Her eyes were filled with hunger, desperately wanting to feel true love.
Her mother was very self-centered and her father was never around.
She longed to find someone who would lift her up from being let down.
One day a man came calling, affection to her he showed.
She quickly fell in love, but little did she know.
They both agreed to marriage and a baby was soon on the way.
He finally displayed his evil heart, then became violent and full of rage.
A heated moment of passion had now turned into a dark night of fear.
He strangled the life right out of her, revived her and left her there on the floor.
She was then kicked and brutally beaten, by the man she loved and adored.
He made her feel at fault as she lay bleeding like never before.
He raped and beat her daily, as their baby continued to grow.
She worried about her future and if she could carry such a load.
Punched, stabbed and strangled she fought with all of her might.
One night she vowed that her baby, would never have to live this life.
In her finest hour, she found the courage to run away.
Her baby grew up knowing love and is happy this very day.
All grown up and married, with a child now of her own.
They’ll never know the pain, this woman in chains had once did know.
This story I tell is true, it’s the life of my dearest best friend.
I’m glad she overcame and adapted and fled that life that was so dim.
Her path in life was forged by one defining moment.
It found her in that hour of need and gave her strength and courage.
It led her out of bondage, thus ending her night of pain.
Relived now only in nightmare, this woman who broke her chains.
