Poem
There have been multiple attempts at dictatorial rulership of the world. There are those today who would certainly be glad to rule if they only could. Had he succeeded at getting 'the bomb' first, Adolf Hitler would have, and we know all to well what would have followed; and only God knows how he would have been stopped. Thankfully, we don't have that to be concerned about. But none can deny that just the mentioning of his name can strike terror in our hearts. There have been other self-ingratiated ones in far-gone history who triumphed in their world. Nimrod before the deluge; there was Pharaoh; then came Nebuchadnezzar. Let's not forget Cyrus, Alexander The Great who grew tired of so many conquests, and of course the Caesars of Rome. These all ruled their 'then known world'. There were others in the Christian era like Muhammad, the founder of The Islamic religion. Notwithstanding, in the grand scheme of things, we must always remember that the Lord turns the head of the king*. There are at least two fatal flaws with every mortal's rule. 'Tenure', because none of us can live forever, not to mention the second incurable flaw plaguing the whole human race. 'Self-will' desires rulership in every mortal's heart, and in a very real sense, 'everybody wants to rule the world'. I must say that with regards to the theme, I'm really speaking rather 'off the top' because I've not given much thought to such a prospect. In fact, I really have no interest in ruling the world. However, since we are high-lighting the word "IF", I can boldly say that if I ruled the world, I would start with the 'impossibility' of making myself live forever. Once I settle that issue, all concerns and worries of being toppled would not be eliminated, but they would be diminished. I would then set the world's behavior standards by linking basic laws to 'The 10 Commandments'. No, I would not attempt to build a theocracy nor demand a 'one-religion kingdom'. I would draw up a thousand year plan, which would be more like 'a flowing river than a concrete dame'. I would ignore the element of time management, and there would be no anxieties about deadlines, plumb lines, and timelines. I would demand and collect all the known gold in the world, and return to the gold standard of economics. A fair wage for work would be determined, and the 'stoppage of work would dictate the stoppage of wages'. No work; no wage. There would be no slavery in any form, and fairness would be the norm. There would be neither child labor nor gender bias anywhere in the world. Children grow best when they are at play; best economies thrive with 'fair pay'. There would be kind considerations for the aged, handicapped, sick, or injured. There would be a 10% income tax rate for everyone who earns income, whether the income is from wages, investments, or inheritance. No, I have not done the calculations, but I suspect that 10% should be enough to operate my kingdom. Again, I have no interest in ruling the world, but 'if I ruled the world', ................................................ 081220PSCtest, If I Ruled The World, Chantelle Anne Cooke *Proverbs 21:1
