Poem
A wave across a smoky bar That was my impulsive bid I thought, “Damn, that was stupid” You frowned like I was bizzare “Too late, go with it!” I did. The wave I had to do To get your attention I was pretty much through Because my mind mentioned Love once I saw you We chatted for awhile I got your digits We went on a date, not too late You weren’t getting away Without some kisses Smooched in the hall of your dorm I wouldn’t let you go Kept pulling you back for more Then YOU pulled, kissing hard! You smirked and said, “Go home!” That’s when my mind was blown Our friends’ mockery For how we snuck off a lot To make up vigorously After we fought a lot But to say that was all we had Would mean a lot forgot Smart and tough as nails I used to just listen to you talk Throaty voice, cuteness edged it Goofy jokes that never mocked And a way of spinning tales Lustrous hair that was my all Dark, but highlight limned Dusky skin and expressive faces Athletic, strong, fit and slim But full in my favorite places Petite as hell but ten feet tall The worst liar I’ve ever seen I always knew what you’d mean When you tried to be duplicitous It came off as just ridiculous Your heart always on your sleeve Because of sweet honesty Your eyes are the only I know That actually DO flash when angry I thought that was in stories! I would sometimes act a little low To see their strobing glories Strolls through the city With you on my arm at night Your tough-girl accent just right Always gorgeous never pretty And making things bright Broadway show and culture Trying to fix your boy so poor Always generous, loving Faithful, protective and more Kind than I’d deserve Our inside jokes and moments Like your gigantic grin When I rubbed your little "feets" Sighing ultimate pleasure I'd pay to see those smiles again And hear those little treats And I’d hug around your tummy On the couch for a spell Resting my head on you Feeling warm and sunny Watching your eyes melt And yeah, off we would sneak Whether we fought or not And I would get a peek At the face of God Because I’ve never reached That with anyone since I tried to be your prince But we were very different And young harsh words Causing us to wince At what each other meant But when I think of those days From decades ago Those fights are no Matter to how the rays Of your sun still play Inside my heart and soul It was not always sad And I am still glad Before love was through with us When it was just the two of us It’s something special we had
