Poem
As I trekked uphill, mind was filled with joy, cool breeze caressed my body, place abounded in greenery, I was glad I came alone, I could enjoy everything peacefully. I watched the mountain flowers, of different Hues and colours, I picked the fallen ones, gently caressed them, they were soft, had a distinct smell, Oh! They were beautiful! It was then I saw her, Walking along with friends, I kept looking at her, couldn't take my eyes of her, she was a beauty past compare! Her friend slipped and fell, she ran swiftly got some herbs, covered the wound and dressed it up, it was then I got a good look at her, she was indeed beauty past compare! Flawless skin, expressive eyes, childlike innocence, divine smile, her long tresses glided in air, she effortlessly moved through rocks, Oh! Her beauty, grace and poise... she was beauty past compare! Was I dreaming or was it for real? I was really not sure, such pristine beauty... she seemed like goddess is to me. She was indeed beauty past compare! My mind was filled with joy, I wanted to marry her, in short moments I lived till eternity, mind did conjure up everything, our marriage, children, home, happiness For, she was beauty past compare! I steadily followed her, without leaving my gaze of her, suddenly she stopped short, turned around and looked at me, "stranger this path leads to village. You have to go that way", Oh! That melodious voice, she was beauty past compare! I turned around, stopped short, only to follow her after some moments, It seems she had a sixth sense, she too turned around, "You want something?" Oh! What an helpful soul, she was beauty past compare! I couldn't say anything, though I wanted to say many things... I retraced back my steps Turned around and hid in bushes, Waited for her to she disappear, Oh! she was beauty past compare! When she went out of the sight, I trekked along the same path, I wanted to see her village, where she lived, who she was, was she married, For, she was beauty past compare! Couldn't find anything except dense foliage, I went there again and again, Never found her or any village, she was lost forever, was she God or real? A figment of my imagination ? Did she really live there? I wish I had told her... I wish I had been bold and not shy, For, she was a beauty past compare! Even today oft when I close me eyes, she flashes before them, That beauty, that talks, that laughter, that grace, her helpfulness, I am filled with peace and joy, She was indeed a beauty past compare! Oh! That mountain girl! Oh! That beauty past compare! 7.06.2020 Contest Name - Say It Again Sponsor - William Kekaula
