Psalm 23 A Psalm of David "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteous for his name sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death; I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Before he became anointed by the prophet Samuel, David was the seventh son of Jessie. And he was a shepherd in charge of the family's sheepfold. God told the prophet to anoint David as king of Israel. To replace Saul because of his willful disobedience. As a result David became a wanted and hunted fugitive. It is believed he wrote this psalm running away from King Saul. Praising him for watching over him and providing for him during his enforced exile. The Valley of the shadow of death, means deliverance from death. A table before me means he did not go hungry. Goodness and mercy were gifts given to him by God. He promised the Lord, He would follow him all the days of his life. As a result. He would live in paradise forever. Which was the house of the Lord. Love in Christ Jesus! Psalm 23 submitted by David.
