Poem
Me gambling that once held me up now I’m afraid to utter, has left me really in the dumps and struggling in the gutter. No more flamin’ pokies will I play; no horses shall I back, I’m prepared to take what’s red and have it wrote in black. I fought this flamin’ gambling bug for nigh on close a week, but missed the thrill of rolling cards and ‘gee-gee’s’ so to speak. In a last and desperate trial to beat the ‘sirens’ beckoned leer, I walked down to the local pub and got stuck into the beer. The barman must have noticed me in this depressive state, ‘cause he shouted me one on the house before he said “Hey mate, you look like you’ve got troubles!” And I just shook me head, then told him that I reckon I’d be better off if dead! “That’s not right!” the barman spoke in his strong assertive voice, “What about the people out there, who never get a choice. They don’t give up and want to die; they rally to the cause, so don’t give up when feeling down and struggling in your wars”. “Here have another on the house; you’ll probably feel much better, when you hear this yarn about a bloke who fits you to the letter. He owed five hundred quid and eventually he claimed, he couldn't gather up the cash and so felt quite ashamed”. “In fact he felt so depressed he drove his vehicle so it’s said, right up to a cliff edge and then he lowered down his head upon the steering wheel and never moved for near an hour, and from this point you can’t deny the strength of people power”. “Folk gathered ‘round concerned and after hearing what they heard, they held a whip around to help now knowing what occurred. They handed him five hundred quid which to him was heaven sent, so he thanked them and reversed, whistling to his heart’s content”. That yarn did inspire me I admit toward the nature of some folk, it warmed my heart to know there’s some prepared to help a bloke, so I asked, “Who were these folk who helped with little fuss!” The barman poured another beer - “The passengers upon his bus!”
