Children of the Father God

Little child sits listening in Sunday school –
Listening to lessons on the golden rule –
Singing songs of Jesus – of the Savior’s love
Until the Sunday hour is done.

Teacher standing at the door to say “Good bye”
Feels a tiny hand slip in her hand –
Looking down she sees two bright eyes
And a question that cannot be disguised.

“How many children does the Father have?
Are there any other children just like me?
God must have the biggest family here on this earth.”
Yes, every face – every race - that you see.

Little child stands listening at the door;
Teacher sees a question coming – just one more –
Did the Lord jump for joy the day I was born?
Did the Lord plan for you and me?

Teacher looks deep in her eyes of childlike awe
Knowing just how important this answer is
With a gentle smile she draws her close 
Then slowly kneels to so gently say:

“We are all the children of the Father, God -
Each of us a member of God’s family
God planned for every one of us who walks on this earth
Every face – every race – that you see.”

Based on a true conversation experience with a little child in Los Angeles, CA after a concert.  

"Each of us is needed.  Each of us is necessary."
