IN THE COLD OF THE NIGHT Last night she called I was busy painting but I couldn’t put her on hold, so I let her right through The night was cold and blue and it got colder as it grew Softly, the wind whistled as it blew a tenfold of spiky waves piercing through the skin Then I heard Lynn She said hey, I said hello, her voice was mellow My heart melted as I lay back on my pillow, her warmth forming a halo above my head I no longer felt lonely in my bed We talked into the night, we laughed with delight We shared moments denied and we bridged the divide Her laughter was so divine, her stories-gratifying I slept with a huge smile on my face knowing she called Last night she called I was busy painting but I couldn’t put her on hold I rummaged through the fold of my jeans pocket Swung my hand so fast it nearly bounced out of its socket She said she loved me and I said to myself, it’s okay if I die tonight, those would be the last words I get to hear I’d be satisfied beyond measure ‘cause I have been waiting for long time, now it’s here As hard as it may appear It was just patience; no blood, no sweat, no tear For a while I thought it will never happen, at least not here But then she called Last night she called I was busy painting but I did as I was told, never to ignore a call When I heard her voice, devoid of hate, anger and sadness, so much light flooded my dark soul Fire burned in my chest, I was at my best She kind of unleashed a beast At least she remained to be the sane part of me amid the madness There are so many things I wanted to tell her, like how I used to tail her Along the corridors of campus hostels, Maintaining my cover in the shadows away from campus hostiles But such would not help my profile So I just smiled and thanked God that she called.
