THE GARBAGE DUMP I saw him get into his car and drive it every day Just a short distance down the road to a dump not far away. I never could quite understand what lured him to that place-- A garbage dump so full of filth and full of such disgrace. The smell had to be bad enough; he seemed just not to care, But punctually he drove his car to find what he could there. He’d often bring home quite a load of refuse, dirt, and grime, And this was nothing new to him--it happened every time: He’d take that trash nobody craved and somehow through the day That trash he’d take and recreate and put it on its way. Th trash, the dirt, the stink went in, but treasure would come out; The change that he would make to it no one who saw could doubt. Somehow one day I wandered there and somehow tripped and fell Into a pit so far away, the place I could not tell. I thought that man would never come and find me lying there So full of garbage, full of filth, the stench just filled the air. But one day this kind man did come and saw me in that place, He reached down and He brought me up, restored me by His grace. He made a treasure out of me from that old garbage pile; He took the frown upon my face and turned it to a smile. Yes, now I know why that man came each day so faithfully: It was to rescue trash so vile--a sinner just like me! His name is Jesus, and He knows how trash to recreate, No matter how you look or smell, He can clean up your slate! He’ll take your garbage, take your filth, and nail it to His tree, And write FORGIVEN on your life and truly set you free!
