Poem
We're living in the limelight of empires As European states become smaller As the European Union threatens to disintegrate Due to an influx of refugees and bitter disagreements It makes me wonder how they're spending their time A look through the daily wire shows a lot of posts But all of them are about America and I wonder why Some of them are calling me fat, stupid, and ignorant Without knowing a single thing about me They claim they're waiting for America to fall It will be glorious or so that's what they say But allow me to articulate a rarely spoken truth We've been watching Europe decline for at least 100 years So busy bickering everyone wants to leave The UK had its Brexit moment Catalonia voted to leave Spain Pretty soon Scotland will leave the UK Italy is angry at the European Union So I suppose the USA is a distraction From the problems threatening to erode the world order And given the president we have is a great buffoon I suppose that's just giving cannon fodder But I want to make one thing crystal clear There are Americans who fight for universal healthcare Unfortunately many still call it communism There are Americans who fight to end the useless wars Though they ignore that NATO states are also participants There are Americans who know the ramifications of genocide and slavery Although Europeans started those processes There are Americans who fight for the metric system Because we know our system is archaic There are Americans who know and understand geography When I look at a map understand I'll never be lost I'm tired of the attacks and I'm tired of the name-calling I'm tired of the anonymous shaming and the blaming I'm tired of being attacked for my nationality And don't take my frustration as a personal attack I live here and I understand the problems But this old world mentality of reversion and insults Is going to reverse decades of progress Americans aren't your enemies Europeans you're not our enemies But in this open letter I just have to say Europe I'm really tired of your arrogance Face your own history before you bring up mine Face your own problems before you bring up mine But know if you ever need a friend I'll be here Maybe we can work it out over a cold beer And make fun of the disaster in chief together Until we vote him out in November Maybe we can defeat the COVID-19 together So we're not all locked inside with pent up frustrations But for now that's all I really have to say So I just want to wish you a safe and nice day
