Poem
The Knock on the Door he remembered well the day it came The knock upon the door His dad had been gone 14 days It could not have been more Mummy stopped and took a breathe She always had that fear That her best friend would not return But he had made it clear That what he did was his own choice A thing he had to do Not like some of the men today Who have not got a clue he saw his mummy open the door her face turned to despair As two young men In dark grey suits With cases, standing there They asked her name she told them loud She knew what this was for I guess she had a real idea When the knock came on the door She offered them a drink, polite But they said for her to sit I think my mummy will need a hug In a little bit Her face was getting damp now Tears were flowing fast She knew the letter yesterday From daddy was the last The nice man asked if i was fine I said i was quite scared then he took hold of my hand just to show he cared the two men left and mummy cried we hugged a lot that day Daddy wasn’t coming home i think i heard her say as we waited, on the black runway the doors were open wide when i saw the box come out i cried and cried and cried mummy held back all her tears i think she thought she should but i guess i was a little boy and because of that i could then some took hold my hand and whispered in my ear your the man of the house now mate take care of mum you hear but when i turned and looked at him i don’t know how i knew this was My daddy telling me what i had to do the day of the funeral came and went many people sad but i knew i had to raise a smile for My mum ..... And DAD
