Poem
Waiting for the world to make sense again I jump back and forth every now and then Lush grass and blue sky, but I don’t know (The world’s too somber for a smile to show) There’s caution tape on the playground swing Hard to make heads or tails of anything In history’s quietest apocalypse (The world shut it’s doors nary a protest) And so I’m just sitting here trying to tame the fear... In spite of the calls to just wither away (did you not hear the news today? so much sorrow and grief, why don’t you cry? are you not sad?) As if I should be guilty for feeling glad (the world has enough trouble, they don’t need me to add) Watching it all pass by lighter than a cirrus cloud (Breathing in the sunshine while it’s still allowed) I listen to the children laugh and play Flashes of color to drown out the gray I know none of it makes sense right now But it’s all gonna be alright somehow Just gotta hold on and remember what hope is for Until the world make sense once more There’s boys playing marbles and girls picking April blooms (Did no one stop to fill their hearts with doom and gloom?) Frisbee, tag and somersaults In the afternoon They can run and skip Just like a toy balloon (did no one tell them It’s all gonna end real soon?) There’s people dying on the TV screen! (close my ears and claim it’s all a dream) Until the world makes sense again Toss all of your cares into the wind You can scream the end is near until the cows come home But I won’t give up my God given right to roam The birds’ll sing and the sun’ll shine Until all our sour grapes turn to wine The world is drenched in unease and yet here am I Enjoying the warmth of a spring breeze with every sigh All the signs urging us to rot away and wither But all the dandelions in the world beg to differ Let the orioles sing their soothing songs Let the cherry blossoms fill your thirsty lungs All the countless ways to say seize the day. To tell the truth... ...the world never made much sense anywaY
