Poem
I shall compare Hinduism with a faith centered on Jesus & show why I cannot worship as a Hindu now. I need to clear a few things ahead of any armchair pundits. Those who have read more than two of my poems will know I respect Indian culture. You will also sense that Jesus is my raison d'etre, my motivation in everything. Especially after my Hindu family in Africa either stole or assisted in stealing of my property (books, jewelry, cheques/checks & real estate). These "sins" occurred while I was studying for a PhD. in USA. Hinduism in RSA was shaped by DLS (Divine Life Society) & THE Arya Samaj. Dr. Iyer (1888-1963) worked among indentured Indians etc., in then Malaya (Malaysia) began DLS. as Swami Sivananda. As a University student, I boarded at the DLS. My Dad was abusive. Guru Sahajananda, lauded by our late President Mandela, was another abusive Hindu! At 16, I (a student) worked the Press or sold DLS books (walking) except Sundays. In 1979 I escaped from DLS. I had enough of "ego-disciplining." I am a pastor now! Sahajananda has devoted "voters" as Trump does. I lived under both; my alcoholic dad was less abusive than Trump & Sahajananda. Jesus sought me when I hated my government & Christianity, Now, when I read about Jesus, or the Gospels, I see Truth. Resurrection Day 2020, I wept in gratitude for John's Gospel. In them, I see Jesus building our 'value.' A woman married 5 times & with man #6 is told by Jesus, "You told the truth." She had said, "I have no husband." His tender teaching made her an evangelist as good as an Apostle. In an HOUR at Jacob's Well in Nablus/Neapolis. John Ch. 4. In Ch.9, Jesus heals a blind man. His disciples wondered if the blind or his parents had sinned. Jesus said, "Neither. He was born blind, so that the works of God might be glorified." In contrast, Sahajananda submitted to no discipline by the world President of DLS, Swami Chidananda, & left the global organization some 20 years ago. Sahajananda then sued other followers of Sivananda & global DLS, so they would not use the DLS name in South Africa. Now his letters from Sivananda portray Sahajanada - not Chidananda - as the "perfect disciple." John the Beloved disciple, never called himself that! He was there at the cross, with Mary, when the apostles dispersed in fear of more crucifixions by Rome. John is the one who says The Father is looking for true worship, from us, "worship in spirit and in truth." With COVID19, I have Promises of God in the Bible through Him.
