Poem
“The safety net?” she asked with a confused expression. “Yeah,” he paused with a look of bewilderment, “Its there to catch you when you fall.” The girl looked up from her stacks of homework with glassy eyes, as if she was about to break apart. Anxiety lifted from the pit of her stomach and blocked the voice within her throat as she chocked on the words she was meaning to say. “I… There is no safety net. If I fail, I fall… They have clipped my wings and expect me to soar, how else can I survive except from the knowledge of my impending doom…” the girl said, as the water in her eyes threatened to spill over, they were overflowing as she tried to blink and hold them back. The glass doll was not porcelain like in the movies, the broken girl sitting in front of me was a paper doll in the rain. Like a star that lived a short life, she began to self-destruct, the iron within her core is destroying her very soul. Fallen stars are not meant for this world, although we are made of iron, she is not. When she forms it within her heart she will forever fall apart, quickly disappearing from this world. Fallen stars are beautiful and chaotic, but they break when they take on the humanity of our world. I thought she could be in the world, but not be of it; she was but only for a time. Eventually time takes its toll, when we thought she was glowing brighter and just beginning to make a mark on the world, she was saying goodbye. All stars must fall…. They must destroy themselves, to allow more people like you and me to be. In the end, I’m left alone, missing the girl who is the remains of star fire, she scorched those closest to her and we didn’t think twice about it The stardust falls, I miss her even more, as the last her slips away she gives birth to new stars. And now I am one of them…
