Poem
They visit your home on a cold, rainy day To tickle your thoughts in a most pleasing way The stories they tell are the bookmarks of time They fill in your day with a clever new rhyme They teach you some stories while saving you more But when they are gone you are craving still more The planets and stars are the places they go But these are the things that a poet may know They fly over meadows and mountains and streams To paint all the rainbows that color your dreams They call you to dance by the moonlight of love To songs of romance by the soft light above They speak of the values that people have lost Who forfeit the world by the pleasures they crossed The mighty and proud are the measure of those But these are the wonders the poem hunter knows He comforts your children when they need to rest By telling them stories of kids who are blessed The virtues they learn are the dues they must pay To forge a new world that is coming their way He follows your trials, your troubles and tears And tracks all the miles you measure in years The people who read are the ring in his nose But these are the wonders the poem hunter knows He sings of the splendor of nature and spring The beauty of blossoms and birds on the wing The warmth of the dawn and the sparkle of dew Are gifts of the morning in time that is new He perks up your heart when your hope is less bright And helps you to part with the shadows of night The gift of a poem is the glory he chose But these are the wonders the poem hunter knows!
