In the Village of Wearing the Green,
townsfolk were getting ready to celebrate
their annual St. Paddy's Day with much flair,
flowing golden locks were dyed to green hair.

Sewing machines hummed and buzzed along,
as the women sewed emerald brocade gowns,
each household was busy with lots of flurry,
all looking forward to hearing Mayor O' Murray.

An award of a pot of gold would be given
to the most unique costume at the annual ball,
ladies embellished their designer one of a kind,
will the Mayor select theirs and not be blind?

The Leprechauns of the village made the shoes,
the ones with golden buckles and fancy, too,
this year they were short of gold and needed more,
they would rob the gold and hide it under the floor.

St. Paddy's Day parade and its green finery,
added to the imbibing of green ale at the pub,
patrons sang 'When Irish Eyes are Smiling,'
all feeling the special day quite inspiring.

The night of the ball was full of greenery,
dancers joined in doing Irish reels and jigs,
a Leprechaun stole the pot of gold,
before the Mayor could could take its hold.

The Village of the Wearing of the Green,
could not imagine who stole the gold,
it was a mystery for many years,
until a sorry Leprechaun confessed in tears.
