Poem
Abnormal cold seethed through the beaten weather in her slow southern sky It was as if the old oak trees had died But they rose again, bruising out the moonlit night Setting all the disease on fire come daylight She conquered notes on a girl she once knew City avenues bleeding like the street lamps, lit anew She was like a fierce cat, landing on her feet She had known torture, abuse, and agony But she held onto the view that love was still a verb, and drowning was no option She climbed each mountain and stormed each steel-framed door She broke the barriers of opposition and refused to let the sickness invade her even more She grew tough and strong Fierce and determined She stood tall on the ravaged mountains her bruised feet climbed She was lightning in the summer sun and she was light in her own dark fight There would be no victory inside her own soul unless she rose triumphant Bleeding out in the streets of her molestation, rape, and bitter violence, were not going to be an option (They were only memories) She was a warrior who still believed there was goodness to be found inside the human mind She still loved and dreamed of being held in gentle kind She reached, she vowed, she fought, and she proved that no one is broken, unless they choose to lay in their own pain forever There is victory in connecting with the humankind that took her innocence and destroyed her skin, only to rip it off once she grew it again No one is ever gone for good, unless they choose it No one is ever forever severed unless they stay upon that torn and bloody path; filled with unhealed wrath She rode the wind to victory upon an angels sky Wings that buried all her agony and told her she could fly
