(*The Gift) This here is a side trip, nothing more, To our country home far and away. Grandparents own one by the seashore, This a gift, gramps in-law and mentor, They raised teen/gramps, not a runaway. Gramps helped older sis and him, farming. I think gramps was fourteen at those times. Great aunt passed and gramps called her charming, Ere he passed, gramps gift was alarming, Both childless, gramps was theirs for pastimes. (*The Homestead Of Opihikao) Place, a few scant homes and nothing more, Less was nearby most a bit farther. Commonly houses, there is no store. Good conversation, smiles people wore, Folks at this place speak with great ardor. (*The Little Church Of Miss Morrison) I do not remember me at four, Maybe I was five by a few days. Miss Morrison met us at the door. We would sing a song and a few more, Bible stories were school on Sunday's. But nowadays, it leans to one-side. All boarded up where a door once stood. Marked for nature as it crawls its side, But I knew its heyday filled with pride, Dear Miss Morrison did lots of good. (*School Times) Our school bus toots its horn at great length. We were always ready and not late. The transistor had an odd wavelength, Climbing the ridge gave radio strength, Naught until then the sing-alongs great. The village is where our school still lies. Ever so often when we have time, We ran down the village, bought moon pies. Nobody doddle, that is unwise, A handful of sweet just cost a dime. Our school had a bunch of fun stages. All the classes there were things to do. Chapters to read with lots of pages. From First through Sixth of diverse ages, The better your grade you will pass through. We had made Halloween disguises. Shaping the mask was more fun doing, Paper mache with gooey surprises. All sorts of masks, different sizes. That class project, the best thing going. (*The Homestead Closest Thing To A Beach) This part of the landscape is rocky. No beaches to be but tidepools. When surf kicks up the pools get chalky. Lots of pools, use a walkie-talkie. Danger still lurks so follow the rules. (*Calamity Pele) The volcano caused people to leave, The ground was too hot, was best to go, The plants became brown, hard to believe. Things subsided, there was a reprieve. A larger homestead went neath its flow. Some seven hundred homes there were lost. Though smaller, we have less than fifty. Landmass about the same but the cost, Sentimental value has been crossed. Rebuilding plans, for now, is iffy. (*Two Sides Of The Story) This here new story is called " Side Trip". It branches off from the main highway. The original story "Road Trip". These places to me bear a kinship. Beach house, and country home far away. 2020 February 01 STRAND CHOICE 12,any form, any theme Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Brian Strand Rhyme Scheme; ABAAB, CDCCD and so forth...
