Today was a better day than yesterday Because my spirit did not go astray Today was a better day than yesterday Because heaven is coming my way I woke up very early this morning From a very bumpy sleep that had me Opening and closing my eyes as if I was looking for something in the deep, I wasn’t going anywhere But I had something profound to share Daylight found me sitting in the chair With a milestone that was not quite my own I sat quietly on the chair in a secret corner writing I was deep in thoughts but the devil start to bark It start accusing me of things that I did not know of But I clench my fist took a deep breath and just suck it in It is amazing what you can hear When they think that you are not around I have survived seven long months of internal strife But through it all I kept my spirit alive Sometimes it was painful and other times it was shameful But no matter what they did, I kept raking the yard And keep burning the garbage, here I am sitting in the park, Waiting for the final exit I am feeling relaxed but a little anxious Just three more days before the month end Only heaven knows what I have to attend I really don’t know where I am bound And the moon is nowhere to be found Maybe it is hiding underneath the clouds I am feeling a bit anxious because I don’t know who will take me on that ambitious ride The police are out on Market Street Organizing the vendors, many of them Were forced into the market to create order But the defiant ones are running About and they are putting up resistance I am sitting here in the park writing And the people are moving about School children market man and market women And the man selling spray pan start cussing while heavens look at him The cane man in the corner with his sharp machete Cutting cane is hustling and looking out for the police This is a frequent happening around the park just before dark It’s Just five thirty pm, and the sun is going down The orange glow shines through the tree With a message that is deep and profound Suddenly chaos erupted in the street An angry woman sprang from the crowd With a long broom stick and walked through the park She went back and charge at the other woman with a long cane The entire crowd gathers around and shouts A sudden disorder broke out in the middle of the town When the police was not around, shouts and cheers Howling and growling excitement lit up the town Two women embroiled in a sword fight but the altercation suddenly broke up When the police came around I have never witnessed a fight in public for a long time The excitement in the town had many people running around The confusion mounts when the traffic came around Impatient taxi men came along and start honking their horn Forcing the people to move along, a broom stick and a cane got the action going again That was a perfect sword fight to break the pent up energy that was boiling up inside Woman fight, man fight Jamaican people gather around To witness the cuss. It must have been entertaining because everyone was screaming shouting and laughing out loud The day is almost done and heaven is on the run I will be here waiting for you before the week is done. The woman wins the fight
