"Black Molasses" Black Molasses holds to ransom footprints sucked into Tropic of Capricorn mud as bushfires bleed sugar from cane like molten glucose shot into the veins of Mother Earth gone all libertine sour like Lemon Grass crushed and burnt acrid smoke inhaled through the flaring nostrils of brumbies running wild coats the colour of bitter sweet toffee now drenched in ash like dusty grey icing and acid rain from the billowing bruised clouds baptise pregnant trees splitting wooden hearts and dropping wasps and bush bees now not buzzing they are quiet like the dying Summer buds now black balls dropping in Mother's masonic box they spit their now poisoned milk red treacle fecund gone the colour of ancient faecal stools all seats in the land broken and crisp black fella brother says lighting from fire came they've closed all outback schools words in the news hits the world in the face with a new life koalas with charcoal for fur torn naked and puss blistered bear witness to tornado flames climbing rock walls where the blue flames lick like the devil his teeth dripping lambs blood and legions of cattle baking by the roadsides with bitumen all over their hides like adhesive melting them they are dead road signs igniting gums bark dingoes with their skin peeling and joeys incinerated in a mother’s pocket hearts are melting in the dark Hell of Oz where fear replaces wisdom terror is broken like a capsule of Amphetamine and breathed in a wake up call to not to go back to sleep you're really not needed in dreams Black Molasses pointing bones drowns a Black Dog Barking and Mary Magdalene cries buckets of tears for what was lost in the could have been stations under the Southern Cross churches burnt to the ground where the child in time listens to the impostor Queen Who dusts a criminal’s feet like he’s precious not unclean the mother no longer walks on water her dams are all dry she has spent every last tear a dead summer where her Christmas was murdered she swallowed a bitter pill her delinquent people a Cockatoo flying in slow motion with feathers flaming screams for mercy like a pyromaniac pterodactyl (LadyLabyrinth/2020) Artwork: Arthur Boyd
