Poem
Things were not going anything close to my way that day. So, I decided to take a walk through a lovely park among the green grass and trees. No sooner than I sat under an old oak tree, to my utter amazement, a voice began to speak. It was in a very caring tone, and I looked all around expecting to see a mortal like me. As I sat against the tree trunk, and felt the vibrations against my body, I soon realized that it was the tree speaking. He had a lot to say, and this is some of what he said to me, and like a sponge, I soaked in all the wisdom that I could from that old oak tree. 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 I am easily recognized by my colors of green and brown beautifying the planet. I am just one of much beloved and living canopies under the beautiful blue sky. Some of us grow several hundred feet tall and will live hundreds of years. We sometime grow wide enough for automobiles to be driven through. Squirrels, monkeys, and many others in the wild love me for what I am. I'm not a landmark, a statue, a monument, or a lifeless column of firewood. I'm not an island, a rock, or a furiously burning and rapidly falling star. I do not stand aloof but as a teamer working in concert on planet earth. Can you imagine the good that would be done on the earth if humans learned to work together like a symphony? After all, our creator designed humans to be the highest form of species. I'm just a tree made for multiple purposes including giving oxygen indiscriminately. I know my role and do my best to perform it. I consume a lot of poisonous pollutants and give back clean air so others can live. That's right, I give and take, but I mostly take in 'death' so that I can give out 'life'. I believe in equal opportunity, making room for everyone and everything wishing to utilize my services. Birds lite on and launch from me; they build their nests and start their families. People will sometime tie a 'yellow ribbon' around me and sing a song about the ribbon. Coming from a strong family of kindness, I'm embraced and held together with deep roots. For humankind, I am also utilized to build private living shelters. I take no offense in drought or even if I'm overlooked, forgotten, or taken for granted. I require sustenance like every living species. Therefore, in adversity, to survive and thrive, I have learned to go deeper for food and water. My tasks are multiple and my responsibilities are vast. I realize that I cannot please everything and everybody. For instance, it may not be pleasing to the leaves I bare, but I have no choice but to push them off my limbs so that, come next Spring, new ones can be born. I think all would agree that without me there would be no life existing on this planet. 010120PoSoupContest, 1st contest: I Am a Tree, Delilah Ventural. 2nd contest: BRIAN'S CHOICE K, any form, any theme, Brian Strand. 3rd contest, 051522, Wisdom From Trees Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Anoucheka Gangabissoon. 1P
