Poem
I’m so afraid, oh, so afraid, a melody I sing. I need to find a way back to the North Pole? I shouldn’t have sneaked on Santa’s sleigh. I was all excited, I had made plans to sneak on Santa’s sleigh. I worked all day finishing up the last-minute touch up on the toys and packing. The night before Christmas, Santa hurries to get the reindeer ready to go, never any of the elves. I guess we take too much room, and he needs all the extra space for the children’s toys. I wanted to ride on Santa’s sleigh to see the children’s faces when Santa left their gifts under their Christmas trees. I’m so afraid, oh, so afraid, a melody I sing. I need to find a way back to the North Pole? I shouldn’t have sneaked on Santa’s sleigh. I wipe the tears away from my face with my sleeve. What am I going to do? How am I getting back home? I need to find the next house Santa is planning on stopping and sneak back on the sleigh. I had gotten off on the first stop without Santa knowing and snuck into the house. I noticed Santa had already left all the children’s toys. I stood there in awe, admiring the Christmas tree. It was all lit up, full of colorful lights and ornaments, a large star on the top of the tree, and beneath, all the toys we had made. My heart had danced with joy. It was worth all the hard work we had put into each toy; I couldn’t wait to get back and tell the rest of the elves. I heard the sounds of the sleigh bells; I had taken too long. I was left all alone in front of the tree. I’m so afraid, oh, so afraid, a melody I sing. I need to find a way back to the North Pole? I shouldn’t have sneaked on Santa’s sleigh. Through the snowy empty city, I ponder and wonder and wander the streets, walking through it alone. I sing and peek inside windows as my tears splash on the glass and cobble stone. In hopes to see the reindeer on someone’s rooftop and Santa shimmy down the chimney into someone’s home to deliver gifts. I’m so afraid, oh, so afraid, a melody I sing. I need to find a way back to the North Pole? I shouldn’t have sneaked on Santa’s sleigh. “My friend, I heard your song of melancholy, come into my home and rest your tired feet awhile. I will get old Joe there to search for Santa’s scent. Joe is a good sniffer dog. He will smell Santa on you and run to find him for you.” It gave me immense pleasure, this man that doesn’t know me with the help of his dog is going to help me. Joe took a big whiff, barked, and like a shot took off running. “There!” I shouted.“There’s Santa’s sleigh!” I turned and gave this good stranger and his dog a big hug. "I should better hurry and climb into Santa's sleigh before he finds out I'm here." I heard Santa holler as loud as he could, and call all the reindeer by name while side by side they stood; “Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Donner and Blitzen! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all! 12/29/2019 Children Story
