Poem
You are like my favorite ride as a child at the local carnival, the carousel, I knew every part of that ride, every seat, just as I know you so well The carousel, roundabout or merry go round whatever you choose to call this ride, isn’t very scary, but it makes you feel happy inside It brings out the kid in you and you feel alive again, and once you’re sitting up on that porcelain horse you pray it never has to end You listen to the looped calliope music as it plays on repeat, and you just can’t get enough of this exhilaration that makes your heart skip it’s beat The carousel has a variety of bright, vibrant colors ranging from red to orange to blue and multicolored lighting at night to enhance the appearance and make the dream come true There is an assortment of horses for riders or they may wish to stand, some may choose to sit together in a carriage and lovingly hold hands The horses on the carousel are speared with a post all the way through, just for our pleasure to laugh and smile, for us to hold onto As the music plays your horse will glide up and down and then the elation begins, you smile like never-before, this is all a part of its plan It’s like you’re stuck in place but you’re galloping at the same time, I know it makes no sense but there is a reason for my rhyme Some call them flying horses and some look like unicorns’ others see them as the fairy tales from their childhood with their knight on their white horse As this ride goes around and round oh how you will cling, but there is nothing like the feeling that this ride will bring What I’m trying to say is loving you was like being on a carousel, one moment I was elated and the next there I fell Like the carousel you made me feel alive and you made me feel happier than I’ve ever been, but as the ride stops so did your love for me that had to end Just like the carousel I couldn’t get enough of you and the feelings that you made me feel, it was like the ride it was so innocent, but it also held a thrill I felt like I was standing in place with you when I looked into your eyes, but at the same time, I knew the world was spinning because you made me feel alive My favorite was always the white horse that was my first choice, and you remind me of that porcelain horse because like it you choose not to have a voice Now the carousel music has stopped, and I must let go of the spear and step down, just like the carousel stopped moving my world did too, when you left it stopped going around. This poem is from my book Love And Carnival Rides available on Amazon and Kindle. My pen name is Amanda Carroll Kinzer
